Identify and monitor KPI’s to keep process on track.

A finishing process consists of a series of interdependent steps: E.g. - surface prep, drying, painting, etc.... Because each step builds on the preceding step, the condition of the part as it transitions between them is a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) as to whether the process is on track to a successful finish.  The KPI’s need to be identified and monitored.

Surface preparation varies by composition and condition.

  • Clean surfaces to remove contaminates that could prevent paint adhesion

  • Etch, flame, phosphatize and et al. to increase surface area

  • Apply rust inhibitors to prevent flash rust of areas not to be coated

Washing, phosphatizing or application of a flash rust inhibitor leaves the surface too wet to paint.  Air movement and the addition of heat helps ensure that the product is ready to paint when it reaches the booth.

A drier ensures the part is ready to paint  when it reaches the booth.
